About us
History
In 2019, at the request of the then Minister of Official Languages, the Honourable Mélanie Joly, who had noted that no French-language post-secondary education was available in Nunavut, the Association des francophones du Nunavut (AFN) produced the report Recherche documentaire to determine the feasibility of offering French-language adult education and training in Nunavut.
In 2021, the AFN produced, with funding from Canadian Heritage, The Business Plan for the Launch of a French Language Adult Education and Training Service in Nunavut, Le Centre Qaujimaniq, A Service Offered by L’Association des francophones du Nunavut.
In the fall of 2022, the business plan developed led to Canadian Heritage funding through the Réseau des cégeps et des collèges francophones du Canada (RCCFC) for 2 years. The purpose of the funding obtained by AFN is to hire a manager to create and begin operations of the training centre, including setting up the Comité Directeur that will see to the proper establishment of the centre, developing partnerships, designing a training schedule, securing funds for the centre’s sustainability and starting training. And so, in autumn 2023, courses, training sessions and workshops began.
The Centre de formation Qaujimaniq offers post-secondary, vocational, continuing education, language and community training that contributes to the professional and personal development of Nunavut’s francophones.
